Inov-8 Oroc 280

The Inov-8 Oroc 280 shoes were my Christmas present from me to me! They caught my eye as they are so pretty – I love bright colours. Plus I wanted to upgrade my very average road running trainers to something with a bit more traction. Those of you who know me well will know I am ALWAYS falling over!

From the moment I got these shoes, they have been great. From muddy trails to icy paths over winter I found that not only was my grip so much better, they are also really sturdy and hardwearing. In addition to this having the extra traction has allowed me to push my running. The Inov-8 Oroc 280 have metal spikes on the bottom making them especially suitable for winter conditions. I had been worried that come drier warmer weather the metal spikes would be slippery on the rock or I would notice them underfoot too much. However, this has not been an issue – you still have equally good grip, and the spikes are not large enough to have a real impact on running. That aside I would not use them for road running, or long distance fell running on drier, rockier ground.

I have also found this style of shoe encouraged me to be lighter-footed and run more on my toes. This style has proved beneficial but initially was completely alien to my calf muscles – ouch I could certainly feel my legs at the end of a hill!

What’s the verdict!? A super pair of shoes that work well for over the colder winter months. Would I buy them again? Yes – although now it is coming into summer I would look at what Inov-8 have without the spikes.
